"Avan la Vacie' - The Epiphany arrives

Comune di Comacchio

On 5 and 6 January, the streets of Comacchio’s historic centre come alive with festive energy, as markets, music and street performances fill the town with joy.

5 January is entirely dedicated to the Befana, Italy’s beloved old lady who brings gifts to children. One of the highlights of the day is La Tamplà, the traditional Befane march — a colourful parade winding through the heart of Comacchio, with locals in costume and, of course, the cheerful Befana herself singing the traditional dialect refrain “A van la vecie.”

On 6 January, the celebrations continue with a full day of fun and laughter. Children take centre stage as sweets and treats are handed out throughout the town. At 6 p.m., the Befana appears atop the
monumental Trepponti Bridge, waving to the crowd before a spectacular fireworks display lights up the sky above Comacchio.
With dancing, music, and glowing lights, the evening closes in a joyful blaze of colour — a perfect farewell to one of the most anticipated festivities of the year.
